the Author and Filmmaker:
Gaylynn Baker is a charismatic award winning director/writer. In 2001 and
2002, Elizabeth initiated formation of a visionary task force to work with New
Mexico Governor Gary Johnson to pass the historic filmmakers'
legislation. Thanks to the foresight of Governor Johnson and astute
members of the New Mexico State House and Senate, and with the crucial support
of Elizabeth's outreach to superstars Shirley MacLaine, Val Kilmer and Marsha
Mason among others, New Mexico experienced a rebirth in filmmaking. Over the
last decade, film has been estimated as an eight billion dollar industry in New
Mexico. Elizabeth is credited with helping to make New Mexico the undisputed
film capital of the Southwest.
Gaylynn Baker worked on eleven independent films in Los Angeles before writing
and directing her first documentary, "When Buffalo Roam". The film,
narrated by Peter Coyote, won Best Social Documentary Short of 1999 at the New
York International Independent Film and Video Festival.
project was a feature-length documentary, "The Trail of Painted
Ponies", narrated by Ali McGraw and judged by Sony Classics in New York.
The film won Best Documentary at the White Sands Film Festival of 2005, while
Baker won Best Woman Director. It also aired in New York on PBS. She is
currently completing her third documentary, For They Know Not What They Do. She
will soon be traveling to Bangladesh to continue her documentary
