Mods & Rockers” Film Festival 2007

On July 13, the eighth annual 60’s oriented summer festival
kicks-off at Grauman’s Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood
with the West Coast premiere of the ultra-rare 1964 Beatles
documentary What’s Happening! The Beatles
In The USA by legendary documentary filmmakers Albert
and David Maysles,
followed by their historical 1969 documentary Gimme Shelter featuring The Rolling Stones during their U.S.
tour, which focused on the tragic events at Altamount.
<>Other festival highlights will include an entire weekend
saluting Stax Records, with the world premiere of Respect Yourself – a new, two hour documentary which features a
who’s who of Stax artists, including interviews with Stax enthusiasts such as
Bono, Elvis Costello,
and Chuck D. The whole weekend of July 21-22 is dedicated
to Stax with two Stax Record-themed D.A. Penne Baker films Only The Strong Survive and SHAKE
Otis At Monterey, and the 1972 concert film Wattstax, and the award-winning 2003 documentary Sounds Of Memphis, which explores the
musical history of the city. Not to be
missed!

The Fest will also pay tribute to the late, great Ahmet
Ertegun and the 60th anniversary
of Atlantic Records by presenting the world premiere of the critically
acclaimed American Masters documentary, Atlantic
Records: The House That Ahmet Built.
Other special screenings include a new print of the 1957 Elvis Presley
film Jailhouse Rock and Smokey Joe’s Café featuring an in person
tribute to the songwriting icons Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. This festival was founded in 1999 by British
rock afficianado, comic, and producer Martin
Lewis, and is now America’s
largest annual celebration of rock-related films.

Other highlights during the popular Festival include a
tribute to the late Harry Nilsson,
with the Hollywood premiere of the new film Who Is Harry Nilsson? featuring Dustin Hoffman,
Robin Williams,
Jon Voight,
Eric Idle,
Ringo Starr,
Brian Wilson,
and archive footage of John Lennon. The July 14 screening will be attended by
members of Nilsson’s family, celebrity friends and filmmakers David
Leaf and John
Scheinfeld.

On July 14, the Fest will also present a special screening
of a newly discovered 35mm print of Otto Preminger’s Skidoo staring Jackie Gleason, Mickey Rooney, Groucho Marx (as God
in his final screen performance) and Carol Channing. You may have an acid trip!!
