film NOVEL ROMANCE, a 2007 Anthology Film Archives New Filmmakers Series
|
Jun 09, 2007
May 22, 2007 (Los Angeles, California) Writer/director
Emily Skopov’s film NOVEL ROMANCE, a 2007
Anthology Film Archives New Filmmakers Series selection,
will screen Wednesday, June 27 at 8:00
PM at the Anthology Film Archives at 32 Second Avenue (at Second Street). After the screening, native New Yorker Skopov
will discuss her journey to the West coast, her years as a television writer,
and how she made her dream come true:
returning to her home town with her own film.
The New Filmmakers
Series gives independent filmmakers a chance to show their work to the
public, and the public an opportunity to see what’s on the cinematic
horizon. New Filmmakers includes NOVEL
ROMANCE in their look at Interpersonal
Relationships. Their advice: “Don’t Try Them at Home.”
Following its premier at this year’s Berlin Film Market,
NOVEL
ROMANCE was in competition at The Other Venice Film Festival
and will make an appearance at the Cannes Film Market. It also won an Honorable Mention at the La
Femme Film Festival and has been picked up by Monarch Home Video for
release this July.
The
charming romantic comedy features TRACI LORDS as Max Normane, a literary editor whose biological window to become
pregnant is rapidly closing. PAUL JOHANSSON, star of the CW’s hit drama “One Tree Hill,” and recently
seen with Bruce Willis in Nick Cassavetes’ “Alpha Dog,” plays the eccentric novelist Max
selects to father her child. SHERILYN FENN and veteran actress MARIETTE HARTLEY round out the cast.
TRACI LORDS, who sparkles in NOVEL ROMANCE, flashed
onto the American scene in 1986 as a teenager who had fled an abusive home and
wound up in the adult film industry. She
went on to study at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and pursued a
legitimate acting career. Of her time in
“adult” films she says “The past is the past, and I’m done with all that.”
<>Director SKOPOV says she set out to make a “funny film filled with interesting,
memorable and intelligent three-dimensional characters.” With a masterful comedic touch, SKOPOV has
succeeded. NOVEL ROMANCE will make
you laugh as it reminds you that: <>
LOVE ISN’T ALWAYS BY THE BOOK!
