AFM Conference Introduction
AFM, YOU SAY, WHAT'S THAT AND WHY ATTEND?
What is the AFM you might say? Well, it's the American Film
Market where the business of independent motion picture production and
distribution reaches its peak for eight (8) days in Santa Monica,
California at the elegant Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel and the Le
Merigot Beach Hotel are converted into a busy marketplace.
According to Managing Director, Jonathan Wolf, 2006 is the biggest year
yet with over 8,000 industry leaders attending and participants from
over 70 countries including acquisition and development executives,
agents, attorneys, directors, distributors, festival directors,
financiers, film commissioners, producers, writers, and the world's
press to cover this fantastic event in which the majority of the year's
independent feature films are bought and sold for distribution through
the global independent motion picture market.
The AFM additionally includes a varying degree of screenings of films
at all 23 screens of the Santa Monica Promenade and screenings rooms
around the city of Santa Monica. Gathering over 900 screenings of
approximately 500 films - basically, 31 new films every two hours -
with most of them being U.S. premieres. Such as the Indie film,
I-See-You.com helmed by Writer/Director, Eric Steven Stahl, and
starring renowned actor, Beau Bridges.
In addition, to the industry leaders, other conference attendees are
treated to a vast area of seminars on the business of independent
filmmaking and the global independent motion picture marketplace from a
Film Financing Conference with panelists such as Tom Pollock,
President, Montecito Picture Company, former Chairman of MCA/Universal
Motion Picture Group and executive vice-president of MCA, Inc., and
Producer, Bob Yari, principle, Yari Film Group, and distribution panels
such as Cassian Elwes, Senior Vice-President, William Morris Agency, Bo
Hyde, Chairman, CEO, co-Founder, Cherry Road Films, and Diane
Weyermann, Executive Vice-President of Documentary Production,
