Two deranged paparazzi compete for shots of dead starlet’s body.
by Erik Sean McGiven on Jul 29, 2010
After discovering the corpse of a fallen starlet, two
deranged paparazzi compete to take their best shot.
When covering a celebrity event, dozens of paparazzi jostle
for position. Two photographers get
entangled with each other messing up the other's shots. Diane, a hard nose blonde played by Tina
Benko ("The Nanny Diaries" and "Puccini for Beginners")
steps away when she gets a phone tip of something better. Zig, her nemesis, portrayed by unshaven
Cheyenne Jackson ("United 93" and "Curiosity") makes note
of her departure.
Diane goes out back of the venue and discovers the body of
media starlet by the name of Taylor,
lying next to her bright red roadster.
Scattered around the body are a variety of prescription pills. Diane performs CPR and gets no results; but
opportunity is too good to pass up, a tabloid gold mine you might say. She takes a number of shots. Then Zig shows up, tosses her aside and takes
his own pictures. Diane knocks him out
with a traffic cone and takes Taylor's
body.
She drags the body away and at one point she uses a portable
garbage bin to transport it. At Taylor's condo, Diane
attempts to get the body through a revolving door only to have Taylor's head obstruct the entrance. When she
enters the condo, Zig is already there have hoisted himself up on the outside
of the building. They decide to collaborate sharing the anticipated lucrative
payday. Tina Benko and Cheyenne Jackson
play their roles with reckless abandonment piling on an absurd smorgasbord of
portraits as if they were on crack. This
is a hilarious entertaining film that hits on the humorous aspects of the
paparazzi and their frantic obsession to get the big money shot. Molly Ward portrays the corpse in a stunning
acting debut of immobile expressionless fervor that only can only be emoted by
one who is truly dead. She's dragged,
carried, costumed, fruited and finally bathed nude in a tub of milk all the
while looking like the glamorous expired media idol that she is.
While the film has its credibility gaps, one gets pulled
into this outrageous story and how these two photographers create works of art
with Taylor's
nymph-like body. You almost wish there
were a sequel so you could see the results of their labors in publications like
People, US, and The National Inquirer. The locations and production design make the
story most believable, especially the spacious condo. Production efforts are first rate and the
story and direction keeps a keen focus on the humor, demented though it
be. And the resolution forgives all the
transgressions of these two twisted photographers as they get their comeuppance
at the end.
